VR-08 free is a Roland TR-808 emulation.
This VSTi is built around 2134 samples recorded at 44.1 khz from a vintage unit. Parameters are designed to take advantage of this huge library, to recreate the original sound of the TR-808 as close as possible.

The TR-808 service notes provide full schematics for each voice. I used them to make SPICE simulations of the circuits. I also analysed the best samples I could find (The Tape808, by Goldbaby), and tweaked the sounds until the waveforms and spectral content were as close as possible to the real thing. Most of the voices have more parameters and a greater range than their hardware predecessor.

It uses different kinds of sound generating: the kick drum works analogue-style, the snare drum works hybrid analogue-style/sampling, the clap is granular sampled and the rest of the drums are built with samples.
Velocity affects not only volume - it also has an influence on the EQ in the background, analog parameters and also (minimally) to the envelope. Also built in is a microtuning random generator which generates for every drum beat a tiny difference mainly on pitch but also on other parameters to generate a more sensitive pseudo-realistic sound. A patch random button is included to help in creative crisis.

Rhythmus is an old school rhythm machine
Rhythmus is inspired by an old rhythm machine. There are ten buttons available, each button can play two different rhythm sections so essentially there are about 20 different rhythmic loops offered, such as samba, mambo, tango, waltz, rumba etc. When you click open, you can change the tune, volume, pan of each rhythm component such as snare, bongo, cowbell, hi-hat, etc. You can mix these rhythmic sections with Tambourine, Guiro, Quijada sounds.

Percumat 2 is a versatileRhythm machine
Percumat 2 features 6 instrument parts / slots to choose from 512 inbuilt drum & percussion sounds. There are two step sequencers one for setting up the beat steps in groups of 4 x 8 steps (or 4 x half a bar) labeled A1, A2, B1 & B2, while the 2nd sequencers on the left allows you to control a sequence of the 8-step beat groups in 16 steps. Thus it is easy to get variations without having to program complete 16-step bars. In addition to that there is an Auto Track Mute feature for tracks 4, 5 and 6 to have one or two tracks muted for a certain range.
